ScanMail for Exchange (SMEX) 12.5 cannot connect to Exchange Server with TLS 1.2 enabled for DDAN web support

Summary

When TLS 1.2 is enabled for DDAN web support, SMEX installed on Windows 2008 R2 SP1 is not able to connect to DDAN server by default.

Connection test in the SMEX UI fails with the error,

"Unable to connect to the specified Virtual Analyzer. A network connection error has occurred. Verify that the network is operational and try again.”

To resolve this issue,

  1. Apply the instructions on this Microsoft KB: Update to enable TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 as default secure protocols in WinHTTP in Windows.
  2. Add the required Registry "DefaultSecureProtocols" by Easy Fix on the same KB.
  3. Restart computer and verify whether TLS 1.2 works.
