This notification is an important reminder that Trend Micro ScanMail for Exchange (SMEX) version 12.0 reached its official End-of-Support (EOS) date last June 30, 2020. Customers who have not yet upgraded to the latest version of SMEX (currently version 14) should make arrangements to do so as quickly as possible in order to ensure there are no disruptions in your organization’s endpoint security after this date.
Below are a few important FAQs regarding the EOS:
What exactly happens after the EOS date?
After the EOS date of June 30, 2020, standard support services for SMEX version 12.0 are no longer officially available. This also means that Trend Micro will no longer develop hot fixes or patches for this version. Regular pattern updates stopped on August 31, 2020.
SMEX 12.0 works just fine in our environment. What are the benefits of upgrading to the latest version?
First, as previously noted, SMEX 12 has reached the EOS date. As such, Trend Micro may not be able to assist you with any product support or malware issues you may encounter on this version.
Second, the latest version of SMEX (version 14.0) includes several new key features and enhancements, especially around areas such as advanced threat monitoring, support for URL sandboxing, enhanced ransomware visibility, and support for the latest version of Microsoft Exchange Server (2019). You can find more information on the new features here in SMEX 14.0 .
New benefits are great – but are there any other “technical” reasons to upgrade?
A very important technical reason to upgrade is that any new vulnerabilities that may be found in SMEX will only be addressed and fixed in the currently supported versions of the product. This means that users on unsupported versions may be potentially exposed.
Where can I get the latest version of SMEX?
The latest version of SMEX, including Service Packs and Critical Patches, can be found in Trend Micro’s Download Center.
Where can I get the latest technical documentation (Readmes, Admin Guides, Online Help)?
Trend Micro has a comprehensive online document library for SMEX available to our customers.
We are still using Exchange 2010. What I can do?
Exchange 2010 is not supported by SMEX 14.0 but it is still supported by SMEX 12.5.
Where are Trend Micro’s EOS dates posted?
Customers may find a list of all currently supported versions and their Stop Support (EOS) date (if announced) in this article: Supported Trend Micro Products. The said article is periodically updated as new versions are released and new EOS dates are added.
If I have further questions, who can I contact?
Please feel free to reach out to your authorized Trend Micro support representative if you have any question regarding the SMEX 14.0 upgrade or this notification in general.
Again, we strongly encourage customers who have not yet upgraded to the latest version of SMEX to make arrangements as soon as possible to ensure that there are no unintended disruptions in your organization’s messaging security.
