Linux system crash due to Linux Behavior Monitoring Event Filtering Pattern 1.2.1278

Summary

Customer's may encounter system crash on Linux environment when using the Linux Behavior Monitoring Event Filtering Pattern, 1.2.1278. It has been identified that when it is inspecting suspicious file creation & deletion behavior (i.e. ransomware-like behavior), the inspection rule might incorrectly calculate the offset for certain filenames. That might cause invalid memory access and result to a system crash.

A new pattern file was immediately released to fix the issue on 2021-Oct-19 20:36 (+0800)/12:36 (UTC).

Security updates are scheduled to perform regular updates daily and thus no further action is needed. However, It is recommended to ensure the pattern is updated and if not, initiate the security update task to update all patterns.

How to verify that you have the updated pattern: 
  1. Login to the web console.
  2. Go to the Administration Tab > Updates > Security > Patterns
  3. From the Component List, search for Behavior Monitoring Event Filtering Pattern and it should have Current Version 1.2.1280.
Note: Depending on the Agent version you have, there could be multiple components listed.
