The number of rules in a policy affects the message scanning of SMD. If the number of rules included in a policy is numerous, SMD evaluates the message longer and this affects the performance of SMD.
Enabling the Stop processing succeeding rules if the mail matches this rule (enable Exit flag) option of a mail scan rule can improve the performance of SMD when scanning messages. This option instructs ScanMail to stop the processing of other rules and finalize the action on the message when the scanned message matches the mail scan rule.
Do the following:
- Open the smconf.nsf database.
- Click Configurations > Policies and then double-click the policy name that contains the mail scan rule for updating.
- Click the Mail Scan tab and then double-click the rule name in which to activate the Exit flag option.
- Select the Stop processing succeeding rules if the mail matches this rule (enable Exit flag) option.
- Click Save & Close.
