Installing the Messaging Security Agent (MSA) from the Worry-Free Business Security (WFBS) Advanced console

Learn how you can use the WFBS console to deploy the MSA on a remote Microsoft Exchange Server.

You can install/manage up to six (6) MSAs in one Security Server.

All major editions and 64-bit versions of the listed operating systems are supported unless noted otherwise.

Setup automatically installs the following components if the Messaging Security Agent (MSA) and the Security Server are installed on the same endpoint. Otherwise manually install the following components on the endpoint where the Messaging Security Agent is installed:

  • .NET Framework 4.0
  • .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
  • Windows Installer 4.5

To install the MSA:

  1. On the Security Server, open the WFBS console.
  2. Go to Security Settings > Add to open the Add Computer page.
  3. Select Exchange server. The lower half of the page changes.
  4. Specify the following on the Exchange Server Information section:
    • Server Name
    • Account
    • Password
    Use an account with domain administrator privileges. Also note that passwords should not contain special characters. If neccessary, you can temporarily change the password for the domain administrator account.
  5. Click Next to verify your login credentials. One of the following will appear:
    • Upgrade is not supported for the current installed version.

      This means that the server already hosts a previous version of the Messaging Security Agent. You need to uninstall the old version (also known as ScanMail) and then install the new MSA.

    • A latest version of Messaging Security Agent is detected on the specified Exchange server. Security Server has added the Exchange server.

      This means that the current version of the MSA is already installed on the server.

    • A message warns you that there is a problem with your installation attempt.

      This means that your login credentials are invalid. Click Back and then specify the correct credentials.

    • The Security Settings > Add Computer > Exchange Server Settings page appears.

      This means that the Messaging Security Agent is not yet installed on the target server. Do the following:

      1. Choose IIS server or Apache web server. The default target and shared directories appear on the lower half of the window. This is where the Messaging Security Agent Program files will be installed.
      2. Accept or change the information, and then click Next. A new page displays the settings you specified.
      3. Click Next. The message "Messaging Security Agent Installation Messaging Security Agent has been installed on the Exchange server:<Exchange Server name>" appears.
