Manually updating the Messaging Security Agent (MSA) pattern files

To update the MSA pattern file, do the following:
  1. Download the latest pattern file from Trend Micro Download Center.
  2. On the Exchange server that hosts the Messaging Security Agent (MSA), stop the following services:
    • Trend Micro Messaging Security Agent System Watcher Service
    • Trend Micro Messaging Security Agent Remote Configuration Server
    • Trend Micro Messaging Security Agent Master Service
  3. Go to the following directories, then back up and replace the existing lpt$vpn.<pattern file number> file with the one you just downloaded:
    • ..\Messaging Security Agent\engine\vsapi\latest\pattern
    • ..\Messaging Security Agent\engine\vsapi\primary\pattern
    • ..\Messaging Security Agent\engine\vsapi\secondary\pattern
  4. Restart the following services:
    • Trend Micro Messaging Security Agent System Watcher Service
    • Trend Micro Messaging Security Agent Remote Configuration Server
    • Trend Micro Messaging Security Agent Master Service
    The updated pattern file version can be seen on the WFBS Advanced console by going to Security Settings and selecting the Exchange server.
