Error 1068 “Could not start the Trend ServerProtect service…” when starting the ServerProtect Normal Server (Scan Server) service

Summary

After installing the Normal Server, the following error message appears when starting the ServerProtect for Windows (SPNT) service:

Could not start the Trend ServerProtect service on Local Computer Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start.

In addition, the system event log shows the following:

Event ID 7001
Circular dependency: The Trend ServerProtect Filter service depends on a service in a group which starts later.

The error can be caused by remnants of a previously installed ServerProtect Normal Server (Scan Server) that was not completely removed during uninstall.

To resolve this, completely remove the old Serverprotect installation by performing the steps in the following articles depending on the version you are using:

Manually uninstalling ServerProtect for Windows (SPNT) 5.58 and its components
Manually uninstalling ServerProtect for Microsoft Windows/Novell Netware 5.8
