The following are FAQs about Smart Scan:

What is Smart Scan?

Smart Scan is a new technology from Trend Micro that utilizes a central scan server on your network to take the burden of scanning off your clients and reduce the amount of network traffic.

Enable Smart Scan to let the Smart Scan Server download all the necessary scan components and scan clients. The Smart Scan Server is installed automatically with the WFBS Advanced server. You do not need to install it separately.

Is Smart Scan reliable?

Yes. Smart Scan simply allows another server, the Smart Scan Server, to scan your clients. If your clients are configured for Smart Scan but cannot connect to the scan server, they will attempt to connect to the Trend Micro Global Smart Scan Server.

How do I know if the Scan Server is running properly?

On the WFBS console, check the System Status to see if any of your clients are connected to the Scan Server. If none of your clients can connect, then your Scan Server has a problem. Verify that the port used by the Scan Server is not blocked by your firewall. Also verify that the Trend Micro Smart Scan Service is running on the Security Server.

What are the ports used by Smart Scan server?

The following ports are used by Smart Scan server:

  • HTTP - 8082
  • HTTPS - 4345

Can I uninstall the Scan Server or choose not to install it?

No. You can use Conventional Scan if you do not want to use Smart Scan.
