Cannot open the Trend Micro Security for Mac (TMSM) server console after installing Control Manager (TMCM) on the same server

When TMCM is installed on the same machine and uses the same instance of SQL Express database as TMSM, the TMSM server’s console cannot be opened.

Both TMCM and TMSM use SQL Express as their database. If the TMSM database instance was created first and TMCM uses the same database, then the database connection cannot be established, causing failure to open the TMSM console.

To resolve this issue:

  1. Go to Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005 > Configuration Tools.
  2. Open the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  3. Expand the SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration on the left panel and then select Protocols for TMSM.
  4. Enable the following protocols:
    • Shared Memory
    • Named Pipes
    • TCP/IP
    • VIA.
  5. Select SQL Server 2005 Services on the left panel.
  6. Restart the SQL Server (TMSM).
  7. Start the SQL Server Browser.
  8. Execute the “.bat” file located in:
    C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\OfficeScan\Addon\TMSM\restart_TMSM.bat
