Recommended exclusion list for Worry-Free Business Security (WFBS) clients installed on Exchange 2007 and Exchange Server 2007 SP1 server

This entry provides the exclusion procedure and a list of folders/files that should be exempted from scanning to prevent conflicts with normal Exchange 2007 operations.

To exclude files and folders:

  1. Log in to the WFBS console.
  2. Go to Security Settings > Highlight Servers (default) > Configure > Antivirus/Anti-spyware.
  3. Under Exclusions, click the Enable scan exclusion check box.
  4. Add the following directories, files, and folders under the appropriate boxes [Scan Exclusion List (Directories), Scan Exclusion List (Files), Scan Exclusion List (File Extensions)].

    Mailbox Server Role

    • Exchange databases, checkpoint files, and log files across all storage groups: %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox folder
    • Database content indexes: %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox folder
    • General log files, such as message tracking log files: %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\TransportRoles\Logs folder and %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Logging folder
    • Offline Address Book files: %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ExchangeOAB folder
    • IIS system files: %SystemRoot%\System32\Inetsrv folder
    • OLE conversions: %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Working\OleConvertor folder
    • Mailbox database temporary folder: %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\MDBTEMP

    Edge Transport Server Role

    • Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM) database and log files: %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\TransportRoles\Data\Adam folder
    • General log files: %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\TransportRoles\Logs folder
    • Message folders: %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\TransportRoles folder
    • Transport server role queue database, checkpoint, and log files: %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\TransportRoles\Data\Queue folder
    • Transport server role Sender Reputation database, checkpoint, and log files: %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\TransportRoles\Data\SenderReputation folder
    • Transport server role IP filter database, checkpoint, and log files: %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\TransportRoles\Data\IpFilter folder
    • Temporary folders that are used to perform conversions: OLE conversions %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Working\OleConvertor folder

    Client Access Server Role

    • Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0 compression folder: %systemroot%\IIS Temporary Compressed Files
    • IIS system files: %SystemRoot%\System32\Inetsrv folder
    • Internet-related files: %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\ClientAccess folder

    Unified Messaging Server Role

    • Grammar files: %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\UnifiedMessaging\grammars folder
    • Voice prompts: %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\UnifiedMessaging\Prompts folder
    • Voicemail files: %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\UnifiedMessaging\voicemail folder
    • Bad voicemail files: %Program Files%\Microsoft\Exchange Server\UnifiedMessaging\badvoicemail folder

    Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange Server

    • Archived messages: %Program Files%\Microsoft ForeFront Security\Exchange Server\Data\Archive folder
    • Quarantined files: %Program Files%\Microsoft ForeFront Security\Exchange Server\Data\Quarantine folder
    • Antivirus engine files: %Program Files%\Microsoft ForeFront Security\Exchange Server\Data\Engines\x86 folder
    • Configuration files: %Program Files%\Microsoft ForeFront Security\Exchange Server\Data folder
  5. Click Apply to All Clients.
