Manually updating the pattern file and scan engine on OfficeScan (OSCE) servers and clients

This article discusses how you can perform a manual update to troubleshoot an update issue (clients appear outdated). These steps can also be used when the OfficeScan server has no Internet connection to update from the Trend Micro Active Update servers.

Use the following procedures to update the VSAPI scan engines and patterns manually.

  1. Download the Official Pattern Release (OPR) or Controlled Pattern Release (CPR).
  2. Extract the pattern file (lpt$vpn.xxx) to the PCCSRV folder. Where 'xxx' = pattern file version.
  1. Download the latest Official Smart Scan Pattern file, icrc$oth.zip.
  2. Extract the pattern file icrc$oth.XXX (icrc$oth.zip) to the C:\program files\trendmicro\Officescan\PCCSRV folder.
  1. Go to the Trend Micro Scan Engine Updates page and then download the latest scan engine for Windows Kernel 32-bit/64-bit (vsapi-KD-x.xxx-yyyy.zip).
  2. Stop the following services or unload the OfficeScan client:
    • OfficeScan NT Listener
    • OfficeScanNT Real-time Scan
  3. Create a back up of the following files in the C:\Program Files\trendmicro\OfficeScan Client folder.
    • tmfilter.sys
    • vsapint.sys
    • tmpreflt.sys
    • tmxpflt.sys
  4. Extract the contents of the downloaded zip file to the :\Program Files\trendmicro\OfficeScan Client folder.
  5. Start the following services and start the OfficeScan client:
    • OfficeScan NT Listener
    • OfficeScanNT Real-time Scan

On the Officescan client, do the following:

This way of updating is only recommended in emergency situations where a client needs to be updated on time. Generally, updates should be done via the OfficeScan infrastructure.

  1. Download the Official Pattern Release (OPR) or the Controlled Pattern Release (CPR).
  2. Right-click the OfficeScan icon in the Windows taskbar and then select Unload OfficeScan Client.
  3. Enter the unload password.
  4. Extract the pattern file (lpt$vpn.xxx, where xxx is the pattern file number) to the OfficeScan home directory. By default, this is C:\Program Files\trendmicro\OfficeScan Client .
  5. Load the OfficeScan client.

  2. Right-click the OfficeScan icon in the Windows taskbar and then select Unload OfficeScan Client. 
  3. Enter the unload password.

  5. Load the OfficeScan client.

On the OfficeScan Server:

  1. Download the Bandage Pattern Release (BPR) from the download site that Trend Micro Technical Support provided.
  2. Extract the pattern file (icrc$oth.xxx) to the PCCSRV folder.
    Note: 'xxx' = pattern file version

On the OfficeScan client

  1. Download the Bandage Pattern Release (BPR) from the download site that Trend Micro Technical Support provided.
  2. Right-click the OfficeScan icon in the Windows taskbar and then select Unload OfficeScan Client. 
  3. Enter the unload password.
  4. Extract the pattern file (icrc$oth.xxx, where xxx is the pattern file number) to the OfficeScan home directory. By default, this is C:\Program Files\trendmicro\OfficeScan Client.
  5. Load the OfficeScan client.
  1. Launch the ClnPack.exe file located under OfficeScan Server installation path\PCCSRV\Admin\Utility\ClientPackager\.
  2. From Package type drop-down list, select Update.
  3. Choose the corresponding Window operating system type and Scan Method from the drop-down list.
  4. On the Components section, select the patterns you want to include in this package.

    Available components may vary depending on the OfficeScan version.

  5. Specify the output file path.
