Creating client packager for roaming client to directly update from the Active Update Server

This article allows you to create a client packager that will directly point to the Trend Micro Active Update Server for updates without editing the registry after installation.

Do the following:

  1. Go to the ..Trend Micro\Officescan\PCCSRV folder on the server and create a back up of the Ofcscan.ini file.
  2. Log on to the OfficeScan management console and follow these steps:
    1. Do either of the following:
      • For OfficeScan 10.6, go to Networked Computers > Client Management.
      • For OfficeScan 11.0/XG, go to Client > Agents > Agent Management.
    2. Highlight OfficeScan Server.
    3. Go to Settings > Privileges and Other Settings > Privileges.
    4. Tick the Enable roaming mode check box.
    5. Go to Other Settings > Update Settings and then select the following options:
      • Client download updates from the Trend Micro Active Update Server
      • Enable Scheduled update
    6. Click Apply to All Clients to save the changes.
  3. Still on the management console, do the following:
    1. Go to Updates > Networked Computers > Update Source.
    2. Deselect the Update Agent: Always update from standard update Source (OfficeScan Server) check box.
    3. Click Notify All Clients to save the changes.
  4. Restart the OfficeScan Master Service from the Services window.
  5. Create a client packager for the target computer and install it. Refer to KB article Installing the OfficeScan client using Client Packager
  6. Once you have installed the OfficeScan client on the target machine, set it to roaming mode by right-clicking on the client’s icon on the system tray and selecting Enable Roaming Mode.
  7. Copy the original/backup ofcscan.ini to the ..\PCCSRV folder to restore the settings.
  8. Restart the OfficeScan Master Service.
 
The scheduled update that you set on the OfficeScan server will still be followed by the roaming clients.
