There are instances when the Smart Scan Servers (integrated or stand-alone) encounter high CPU usage during a scheduled scan when there is a large number of Smart Scan clients. However, after the scheduled scan, the performance drops to an acceptable level.
Smart Scan server requirements:
Officescan 10 SP1 (EOS) Integrated Smart Scan Server | |
---|---|
Processor | At least 1.86GHz Intel Core2Duo™ processor if installing the integrated Smart Scan Server |
RAM | 1GB minimum if installing the integrated Smart Scan Server |
Smart Scan Server Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 Build 1166 | |
---|---|
Processor | 2.0 GHz Intel(TM) Core2Duo(TM) 64-bit processor supporting Intel(TM) Virtualization Technology(TM) or equivalent |
RAM | 1GB RAM |
To alleviate this scenario, consider increasing the number of CPUs associated with the Smart Scan servers. If you are using a virtual machine solution (Microsoft Hyper-V or VMware ESX/ESXi/Server), please consult your documentation on how to accomplish this.
It will also be beneficial to spread the processing load across the virtualization hosts or images. For example:
- Separate the OfficeScan server from the Stand-alone Smart Scan Server between virtualization hosts if they are hosted on one host only.
- Increase the number of virtualized images of the Smart Scan Servers on the environment, but use separate virtualization hosts to spread processing load.
