Unable to install Critical Patch/Hot Fix for ServerProtect Control Manager Agent

Summary

ServerProtect for Microsoft Windows/Novell Netware 5.8 and Control Manager (TMCM) 5.x are installed on Windows 2008 R2 Server. When the administrator tried to install the latest critical patch for Control Manager Agent of SPNT 5.8, the installation failed.

The TMpatch.log file shows the following lines:

This issue happens because libMRF_Common.dll is still loaded even if the patch installer has tried to stop all the related services.

To resolve this issue:

  1. Manually stop the following services:
    • Trend Micro ServerProtect
    • Trend Micro ServerProtect Agent
    • Trend Micro Management Infrastructure
  2. Verify if libMRF_Common.dll is still loaded.
     
    This can be done, for example, by using the process explorer from Sysinternal Tools from Microsoft.
    1. Run Process Explorer.
    2. Click Find > Handle or DLL.
    3. Enter libMRF_Common.dll.
    4. If you find a process still loading it, try to kill the process.
  3. Run the patch installer again.
