The following may cause the installation to fail:
Before MSA is installed, the target exchange server has existing SQL instances (e.g. SQL application for database management).
To resolve the issue:
  1. Check if the account used has domain administrator privilege.
  2. Check if there are remnants of previously failed MSA installation. To do this, please do the following:
    1. Extract MSA Uninstall Tool.
Note: Type "novirus" when prompted for a password.
    2. Run the Luncher.js as administrator.
    3. Click Check on the MSA Uninstall Tool interface.
    4. When all checkpoints' results are "Passed", proceed to the next steps. Otherwise, click Clean to remove all MSA remnants.
  3. Install the SQL SCANMAIL instance manually.
    1. If the SQL Server instance has SQL Server Express 2005 Service Pack 2 installed, download the SQL 2005 Express Service Pack 3 and go to Step 4.
    2. If the SQL Server instance has no SQL Server Express 2005 Service Pack 2, go to the following directory to get the SQL 2005 Express install package from the Security Server:
      \Security Server\PCCSRV\MSA\x64\SQL2005Express\
  4. Run the SQLEXPR.exe on the target exchange server.
    1. On the Registration Information window, uncheck the Hide advanced configuration options box.
    2. On the Feature Selection window, select the Will be installed on local hard drive option for the following components:
      • Database Services
        • Data Files
        • Shared Tools
      • Client Components
        • Connectivity Components
    3. On Instance Name window, enter "SCANMAIL" under Named Instance.
    4. On Service Account window, select Use a domain user account and enter the account with Domain Administrator privilege.
    5. Proceed installing using the default settings.
  5. Reinstall MSA.  For reference, refer to the following KB article:

Note: Make sure the user is logged on as administrator while installing.
