Changing your PortalProtect service installation account

Summary
Modify the service installation account of PortalProtect. You may need to change the service account if you encounter any of the following:
  • Issues on the old service account
  • Corrupted service account
  • Organization requirement
  • Migrating or decommissioning accounts

To change the service installation account:
  1. Create a new Local Admin or Domain User account with Local Admin rights in the PortalProtect server. 
  2. Log in using your old service account. Export and save in C:\ the following registry key:
    [HKLM\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\PortalProtect]
  3. Stop the following PortalProtect (PP) services:
    • PortalProtect_Master
    • PortalProtect_SystemWatcher
  4. Configure any PP services that use the old service account to log in with the new service account.
    1. Open Administrative Tools > Services.
    2. Double-click a PP service that has “Log On” as the PP service account name. Click the Log On tab.
    3. Select the This account option and then type the new service account name that you created in Step 1.
    4. In the Password and Confirm Password fields, type the new service account password.
    5. Click Apply and then click OK.
    6. Repeat the steps for each of the remaining services that have “Log On” as the old PP service account name.
  5. Log in using the new service account and import the registry keys saved in C:\.
  6. Make sure that [HKLM\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\PortalProtect] exists in the machine’s registry.
  7. Start the following PP services:
    • PortalProtect_Master
    • PortalProtect_SystemWatcher
