    • OfficeScan 10.6
    • Platform:
    • Windows 2003 Enterprise
    • Windows 2008 Enterprise
    • Windows 2008 Standard
Summary

When a user performs a Test Connection for Web Reputation Services (WRS) under the Smart Protection Source page, it displays the following error message:

"Unable to connect to the Smart Protection Server Web Reputation Services"

Details
Public

This normally happens when the Local Web Classification Server virtual website is binded to a specific IP Address instead of being se to All Unassigned.

You can bind the WRS ( Local Web Classificiation Server ) to a specific IP Address by doing the following:

If they are on 10.6 GM Build ( 1062 ), they need to request and install HF_1176 or they can install 10.6 SP1 ( Build 2108 ).
  1. Open the IIS Manager.
  2. Go to Application Pools then stop OfficescanAppPool or DefaultAppPool.
  3. Navigate to the \PCCSRV\LWCS folder then edit the lwcs.ini file.
  4. Under [lwcsstatus], add an entry "rating_server=" and set it to the Specific IP that you want to bind to WRS.

    For example:

    [lwcsstatus]
    prefix=lwcstest
    connection_timeout=2
    query_timeout=6
    debug_enabled=0
    cache_ttl=30
    socket_family=1
    rating_server=10.1.173.79 <-- The specific IP address

  5. Go back to IIS Manager then restart the Application Pools stopped in step #1.
  6. Manually restart the "Trend Micro Local Web Classification Server" service if necessary.
  7. Test the WRS again.
