Summary
In the PolicyServer, multiple devices show the same Device ID.
Details
This happens because the Device ID is retained when you move a hard drive to another device shell without decrypting and uninstalling Full Disk Encryption (FDE). Installing FDE on the old device shell using any other hard drive generates the same Device ID, causing multiple devices with the same Device ID in the PolicyServer. This occurs because the Device ID is generated from the network card and processor information.
You cannot change the Device ID without reinstalling FDE because the Device ID is generated during installation.
To fix the existing multiple devices with the same Device ID:
- Decrypt the devices.
- Uninstall the Full Disk Encryption.
To prevent the issue, do the following before moving a hard drive to a new shell:
- Decrypt the device.
- Uninstall the Full Disk Encryption.
- Install the product.
