Using wildcards for ESX names in an Event-Based Task

Summary

Use wildcards in ESX names if you want to apply an Event-Based Task to all VMs on a particular ESXi.

 
Regular expression is case sensitive.

Use Java regular expression syntax to match patterns in the following fields:

  • Cloud Instance Image ID
  • Cloud Instance Metadata
  • Cloud Instance Security Group Name
  • Cloud Account Name
  • Computer Name
  • ESXi Name
  • Folder Name
  • NSX Security Group Name
  • Platform
  • vCenter name

Below are some samples of Java regular expression:

To use wildcards for an Event-Based Task (e.g. activating all VMs created on a particular ESXi):

  1. Open the Deep Security Manager (DSM) console.
  2. Go to Administration > Event-Based Tasks.
  3. Select the event to base the task on and then click Next.

  4. Select the actions to be performed and then click Next.

  5. When specifying the conditions for the action, select ESX Name and then input a value in this format:

    VLab.*

    In this example, the Event-Based Task will be applied to vLab01, VLab02, and so on.
