"Unable to install client" or "An error has occured during installation" may appear in Trend Micro Encryption for Email (TMEE)

Summary

In order to install TMEE, all diagnostic tests must be passed. However, when you try to install it, one or more diagnostic tests failed.

One of the following errors appears:

  • Unable to install client
  • An error has occurred during installation

To resolve the installation error:

  1. Make sure the following system files exist:
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\advapi32.dll
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\crypt32.dll
  2. Create a temporary administrative windows account without a password.
  3. Log in using the newly created temporary account.
  4. Install TMEE on the temporary account but do not click the registration link in the registration email.
  5. Click Cancel when the registration starts.
  6. Reboot OS.
  7. Log in using the original windows account. The registration wizard appears.
  8. Register using the original windows account.
  9. Delete the temporary windows account you created in Step 2.
