An HTTP Error 500.0 and "Unable to connect to the Smart Protection Server File Reputation Services" appears in the OfficeScan (OSCE) console

Summary
The following error message appears on the OSCE web console:
HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error
Calling LoadLibraryEx on ISAPI filter "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\\aspnet_filter.dll" failed.
After further checking:
  • The Trend Micro Smart Scan Server service is started.
  • Doing a test connection with the File Reputation service results in the following error:
    Unable to connect to the Smart Protection Server File Reputation Services.
  • After checking the OfficeScan (OSCE) client system tray icon, you will notice that the Reputation Service is reconnecting.
The IIS logs of the Smart Scan server website (C:\intepub\logs\LogFiles\W3SVC4) contains the following:

To resolve this issue:
  1. Open the Information Internet Services (IIS) Manager. Click Start > Administrative Tools.
  2. Expand Sites, select Smart Scan Server (Integrated) and double-click ISAPI Filters.
  3. Double-click ASP.NET_4.0.xxxxx (where x is the build version of the ASP.NET installed on the server).
  4. Delete the extra "\" on "\v4.0.30319\\aspnet_filter.dll" and click OK.
  5. Restart IIS and check if you can connect to the File Reputation Services.
    The clients should also stop reconnecting.
