Summary
When the Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension (S/MIME) messages are not scanned by default, malware may leak and the header or content filter may not work.
Learn how to enable the option to scan S/MIME messages. This option is an enhancement in IMSS 7.1 Service Pack (SP) 1 build 1576.
Important: IMSS will NOT scan malware in real encrypted messages even with this enhancement because it cannot decrypt encrypted content.

This enhancement enables IMSS to detect malware in S/MIME message and to filter the message based on header or content filter. However, this enhancement cannot scan malware in real encrypted messages because it cannot decrypt the message.
To enable this option:
  1. Open the imss.ini file located in the /opt/trend/imss/config folder using a text editor.
  2. Under the "email-scan" section, add the following key and set its value to "yes":
    [email-scan]
    ScanEncryptedMsg=yes
    Note: To disable the option, change the key to "ScanEncryptedMsg=no".
  3. Save the changes and close the file.
  4. Restart the scan service using the command below:
    /opt/trend/imss/script/S99IMSS restart
You may confirm the availability of this enhancement in other InterScan Messaging Security products by checking the Readme file of their latest patch of service pack.
For more information about this enhancement, refer to the IMSS for Linux 7.1 SP1 Readme file.
