Summary
Learn how to do erase provisioning (format-erase encryption) or preserve provisioning (in-place encryption) in SecureCloud.
Details
In previous versions of SecureCloud, when you encrypt a data volume SecureCloud erases all the data from the volume before encryption. SecureCloud 3.5 uses in-place encryption which preserves the data during encryption.
In SecureCloud 3.6, you can choose the method of encryption: in-place encryption or format-erasing encryption. Format-erasing encryption is optional, however, it may be faster and easier to use.
Erase provisioning (Format-erasing encryption)
- On the SecureCloud console, click Inventory.
- Select the computer that you want to encrypt.
- In the Edit Computer page, select the device you want to do the format-erasing provisioning, and then click the Encrypt button.
A pop-up window appears that will let you choose the type of encryption.
- Select Erase. Choose a file system and mount point, and then click Encrypt.
- Wait for the encryption to be successful.
Preserve provisioning (In-place encryption)
- On the SecureCloud console, click Inventory.
- Select the computer that you want to encrypt.
- In the Edit Computer page, select the device you want to do the format-erasing provisioning, and then click the Encrypt button.
A pop-up window appears that will let you choose the type of encryption.
- Select Preserve. You may choose a file system and mount point, and then click Encrypt.
- Wait for the encryption to be successful.
