Summary
When you set Google.com as the home page in Internet Explorer (IE) 11, you get the “Page cannot be displayed” message. The issue does not occur when using other browsers and other versions of IE.

The issue occurs because IE is configured to use a proxy server and SPDY is enabled. Sites that support the SPDY protocol do not load on the first attempt in IE. Google.com supports SPDY protocol thus, the error occurs. However, clicking on the Refresh button will display the home page correctly.
To properly load the home page on the first attempt, disable the SPDY setting:
  1. Start Internet Explorer 11.
  2. Click the Tools menu > Internet Options > Advanced tab > HTTP Settings.
  3. Untick Use SPDY/3.
