Summary
Learn how to set the WFBS MSA to not block compressed files with .XLSX files.
Details
Office 2007 and 2010 use a new file format that incorporates compression and can reduce the file size to up to 75%. This format is similar to a standard ZIP file. Because of this, Office 2007/2010 applications contain .BIN files that the MSA blocks.
Most Microsoft Excel 2007/2010 files (.XLSX) contain the printerSettings.bin file. If your MSA is set to block attachments that have files with the .BIN extension, then .XLSX files will be blocked.
To configure MSA to allow .XLSX files, you need to enable SkipBlockingFilesInsideOffice2007Files in the registry.
- Go to the MSA computer and stop the Trend Micro Messaging Security Agent Master Service.
- Open the registry and look for the following entry or create the entry if it does not exist:
Important: Always back up the whole registry before making any modifications. Incorrect changes to the registry can cause serious system problems.Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\ScanMail for Exchange\CurrentVersion
Key: SkipBlockingFilesInsideOffice2007Files
Type: REG_DWORD - Edit the registry entry by changing the value to 1 to enable SkipBlockingFilesInsideOffice2007Files.
- Start the Trend Micro Messaging Security Agent Master services.
SkipBlockingFilesInsideOffice2007Files is now enabled and the MSA will no longer block ZIP files with .XLSX files.
