Summary
You receive a Read Confirmation email with “on behalf of” in the sender field.

To:                   FirstName LastName<RecipientName@targetdominname.local>
Subject:          Test Mail

When you see “on behalf of <IMSVA hostname>” in the sender field of a Read Confirmation email, this is because the sender’s email address does not have a domain name.
If you capture packets on IMSVA when reproducing the issue, you will see the following:
Before IMSVA
From: FirstName LastName This address is invalid, because it only mentioned the username without domain name.
To: FirstName LastName<RecipientName@targetdominname.local>
Sender: FirstName LastName SenderName@sourcedomainsample.local
After IMSVA
From: FirstName@imsva, LastName@imsva
To: FirstName LastName<RecipientName@targetdominname.local>
Sender: FirstName LastName SenderName@sourcedomainsample.local
You can see that Postfix has added its hostname to the From field. For more details, refer to the Postfix article Postfix Address Rewriting. According to the article, the Postfix action to rewrite "user" to "user@$myorigin" is controlled by the boolean append_at_myorigin parameter (default: yes). You should never turn off this feature, because a lot of Postfix components expect that all addresses have the form "user@domain".
The "on behalf of <IMSVA host name> issue happens when the following conditions occur:
  1. The mail user agent (MUA) sends the email with an invalid From field with a username that has no domain.
  2. IMSVA's Postfix receives the email. After detecting that the From field is invalid, it changes the "user" to "user@$myorigin". By default, $myorigin is equal to the hostname. This is what you see in the From field.
To solve the problem use the append_at_myorigin parameter to disable the rewrite action:
  1. Go to Postfix and open the opt/trend/imss/postfix/etc/postfix/main.cf file.
  2. Add the following to the file: append_at_camyorigin=no.
  3. Save your changes.
  4. Restart Postfix using the command:
    #service postfix restart
After following these steps, IMSVA will not rewrite "user" to "user@$myorigin” in the From field. However, it cannot prevent other Mail Transfer Agents (MTAs) from rewriting the From field since the original From field is invalid and needs to have a valid address with the following format:
From: FirstName LastName <SenderName@sourcedomainsample.local>.
Check your Mail User Agent (MUA) settings and contact the developer if the problem still occurs. For Outlook users, check with Microsoft to help with the settings.
