OfficeScan Agent icon is missing in Windows 8.1 system tray

Summary

You notice that the OfficeScan (OSCE) Agent icon is unavailable in the system tray even when PccNTMon.exe already runs in the Windows Task Manager. Upon checking the Notification Area Icons on the Control Panel, Trend Micro OfficeScan is on the list.

The issue is caused by the cached registry settings.
To resolve the issue:

  1. Open the Registry Editor.

     
    Always back up the whole registry before making any modifications. Incorrect changes to the registry can cause serious system problems.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify.
  3. Delete the following registry keys:
    • IconStreams
    • PastIconStream
  4. Restart the Windows Explorer.
    1. Open the Task Manager.
    2. Click the Process tab.
    3. Right-click Windows Explorer and select Restart.
  5. Launch the OfficeScan Agent again.
