You are unable to get the system logs because the iPhone Configuration Utility (iPCU) does not detect iOS 8.x devices. This happens because iPCU does not support iOS 8 and above.
Know the other tools that can be used to collect system logs.
To collect the logs, do the following:
- Download and install the iOS Console.
- Run the iOS Console.
- Plug in the iOS device. It should automatically load and show the device's system logs.

- To export the logs, go to File menu and then export logs.
- Save the log files to the desired location and filename.
To collect the logs, do the following:
- Download and install iTools.
- Run iTools.exe.
- Plug in the iOS device.
- Select the iOS device from the left pane then expand options.

- Click Advanced > System logs.
- To export the logs, click the Save button.
- Save the file to the desired location and filename.
For Windows phone, built-in MDM agent is used to manage device. To collect its logs, you may refer to Windows Phone 8.1 MDM protocol documentation.
