Summary

In an enterprise environment, administrators tend to limit the number of servers deployed. Due to this scenario, administrators choose to install OfficeScan and Control Manager in the same machine. Below is the supportability matrix on which versions of OfficeScan and Control Manager can co-exist in one machine.

 Control Manager 6.0
Bare with PHP 5.3.5SP1 with PHP 5.3.5SP2 with PHP 5.3.5SP3 with PHP 5.4.38
OfficeScan 11.0 with PHP 5.3????
OfficeScan 11.0 SP1 with PHP 5.4.38????

Administrators may install both OfficeScan and Control Manager software applications in a single machine of an enterprise network that manages 1000, 3000, or more clients.

The following sections show the required system and setup for the server, installation process, and post-installation configurations.

Here is the recommended setup for the single server.

Agent Number10001000 above (up to 3000)
CPU TypeIntel Core i5 4 Core CPU
RAM8 GB16 GB
DiskSATA 2 7200RPM or above, SAS/SSD is better
NIC1 GBPS
SoftwareTMCM 6.0 SP1
OSCE 11.0
OSCE Plug-ins: Data Protection, VDI Support, Microsoft IIS Server
DatabaseSQL express (TMCM self-installed)External SQL server (MS SQL 2008 or above)
ConfigurationAdd SQL server process to exclusion list of Real-Time Scan and Behavior Monitoring of OSCE

As the same machine has limited resource, the major performance constraint will be the disk I/O once all the services of the machine is running. To maintain the service quality of the machine, it is also recommended to install disk storages with higher IOPS like SAS, HDD in RAID, or even SSD.

Below is a glance on the performance of the machine regarding the agent capacity.

Server TypeSingle Server (TMCM + OSCE)
ConfigurationExclusion*Exclusion* + SQL server
No. of managed agents10003000

With exclusion configuration applied, the machine is estimated to support up to 1000 agents. With exclusion configuration and standalone SQL server configured, the machine is estimated to support up to 3000 agents.

*Exclusion configuration means adding the SQL server process into the exclusion list of Real-time Scan and Behavior Monitoring features on the OfficeScan server.

The administrator is encouraged to do the following installation process:

A. Install TMCM 6.0

  1. Install all required components.
  2. Specify the installation location.
  3. Register and activate the product and services.
  4. Specify the Control Manager Security and Web server settings.
  5. Specify the backup settings and configure database information.
  6. Set up the root account and configure notification settings.
  7. Perform the suggested post-install configurations after installation completed.

For more information, refer to the Control Manager 6.0 Installation Guide (Chapter 3).

B. Upgrade to TMCM 6.0 SP1

  1. Copy the tmcm_60_sp1_win_en.exe file to the Control Manager server folder.
  2. Run tmcm_60_sp1_win_en.exe on the Control Manager server.
  3. Follow the instructions in the Control Manager 6.0 SP1 Readme file (Section 5.1 - Installation).

C. Install OSCE 11.0

  1. Specify the installation location.
  2. Register and activate the product and services.
  3. Choose IIS as web service, Apache is not supported in OSCE co-working with TMCM.
  4. Specify the Integrated Smart Protection Server and Web server settings.
  5. Set up the root account and configure Server Authentication Certificate.
  6. Specify the security features like Web Reputation, Anti-Spyware, and Firewall settings.
  7. After installation, perform the suggested post-install configurations.

For more information, refer to the OfficeScan 11.0 Installation Guide (Chapter 2).

Migration of the OSCE traditional database to SQL database

Once OSCE server installed, it uses the traditional database by default. It is suggested to migrate the traditional database to the SQL database service (SQLExpress) which is installed by TMCM.

The SQL Migration Tool provided by OSCE can do the migration task. Download this document for more information.

  1. Select the Migrate the OfficeScan database to an existing SQL Server option.
  2. Enter the SQL server name and instance information.
  3. Enter the SQL server account and credential.
  4. Click Test Connection.
  5. Start the migration task.

Migration to SQL database

Download and deploy the OSCE Plug-in services

OSCE server provides different plug-in services to enrich the various features that OSCE does not originally cover. To use the Plug-in Manager, follow the procedure in OfficeScan 11.0 Admin Guide (Chapter 15).

The recommend setup of single server is based on a test result where OSCE server is incorporated with Data Protection and VDI support plug-ins only.
