Deploying InterScan Web Security Virtual Appliance (IWSVA) in transparent bridge mode on Hyper-V environment

Summary

With the release of the IWSVA version 6.5 SP1, Hyper-V for Win Sever 2012 R2 is now supported and transparent bridge mode can now work in Hyper-V environment. You want to know how to deploy IWSVA in transparent bridge mode on a Hyper-V environment.

  1. Install IWSVA into the Hyper-V environment.
  2. Add a Virtual Switch.

    2 switches are used in this deployment. One is for internet access; the other one is for IWSVA to communicate to all the clients. IWSVA is the bridge between the 2 switches. All the VM outgoing traffic will go through IWSVA for scanning.

    1. In Hyper-V Manager, click Virtual Switch Manager…

    2. Select External as the type of the switch and click Create Virtual Switch.

    3. Name it and select the host’s physical NIC that is connected to the Internet.

    4. Create another switch but connect it to the host's physical NIC that is connected to the internal network.
  3. Connect IWSVA to the switches.

    1. n Hyper-V Manager, right click on IWSVA VM and select Settings.

    2. Verify IWSVA has at least 2 Network Adapters. If there is only one, select Network Adapter and click Add.

    3. Select the 1st Network Adapter and select the external switch.

    4. Expand the Network Adapter option, click Advanced Features.
    5. Select Static and check the Enable Mac address spoofing.

    6. Select the 2nd Network Adapter and connect it to the internal switch.
    7. Select Static and check the Enable Mac address spoofing.

       
      Make sure the IWSVA's NIC are not connected to the same switch. and that the 2 switches' physical NICs are not connected. Otherwise, there will be network loop.
  4. In the IWSVA web console, change the deployment mode to transparent bridge mode.
