Manual uninstall procedure for InterScan Web Security as a Service (IWSaaS) Enforcement Agent (EA)

Summary

Installation of EA fails because of some known/unknown exceptions. After the installation failure, the EA cannot be rolled back automatically and reinstallation fails.

This article provides the steps on how to manually clean uninstall IWSaaS EA on the machine.

To manually clean uninstall IWSaaS EA, do the following:

To check, right-click the Windows Bar. Select Start Task Manager then go to Processes. (For Windows 10, choose Details).

Check if the following processes exist:

  • IWSSrv.exe

    Actions:

    1. Open the command prompt as Administrator.
    2. Change the directory to installation folder.
    3. Run the following command

      iwssrv.exe /stopservice

    4. If the process does not exits in 15 seconds, kill this process from the task manager.

    Refresh the process list and check iwssrv.exe again, If the process still exists, repeat step (c).

  • IWSProxySrv.exe

    Actions:

    1. Open the command prompt as Administrator.
    2. Change directory to the installation folder.
    3. Run the following command

      IWSProxySrv.exe http -stop

    4. If the process does not exit in 15 seconds, kill this process from the task manager.

    Refresh the process list and check for IWSProxySrv.exe again. If the process still exists, repeat step (c).

  • IWSTray.exe

    Actions:

    1. Make sure IWSSrv.exe is stopped by (1).
    2. If IWSTray.exe still exist, kill it from the task manager.

From the Control Panel, go to Administrative Tools > Services.

Check for the following services:

  • IWSSrv

    Actions:

    1. If the service status is running, go to the Task Manager and stop the “IWSSrv.exe” process.
    2. Open the command prompt as Administrator.
    3. Run the following command:

      sc.exe delete iwssrv

  • Trend Micro IWSaaS Local Proxy

    Actions:

    1. If the service status is running, go to Task Manager and stop the “IWSProxySrv.exe” process.
    2. Open the command prompt as Administrator.
    3. Run the following command:

      sc.exe delete iwsaaslocalproxy.

After the previous actions are done, refresh the service list then check if the services still exist.

If any of these 2 services still exist, restart the machine then check again.

The default path will be:

  • For 32-bit Windows - C:\Program Files (x86)\Trend Micro\IWS Enforce Agent
  • For 64-bit Windows) - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\IWS Enforce Agent

Actions:

  1. Open the command prompt as Administrator.
  2. Run the following command:

    MsiExec.exe /X{AECBF101-4833-436A-A0FA-50EFD6EED6BF}

    If the error message “This action is only valid for products that are currently installed.” for this command appears, ignore it.

  3. Delete the files from this program folder.

If the EA still exists in the App and Remove Program list, do the following actions:

Actions:

  1. Remove the following key if it still exists:

    • For 32-bit Windows

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
      InstallShield_{AECBF101-4833-436A-A0FA-50EFD6EED6BF}

    • For 64-bit Windows:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
      InstallShield_{AECBF101-4833-436A-A0FA-50EFD6EED6BF}

  2. Remove the following key if it still exists:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\IWSaaS
