Since its initial release in May 2003, Microsoft Windows 2003 Server has been utilized extensively by organizations and small businesses around the world. Even though it has officially reached End-of-Support (EOS) status, it remains a popular operating system (OS) even today in many corporate environments.

Microsoft officially announced the EOS for Windows Server 2003 (included extended support) on July 14, 2015, which effectively ended Microsoft support for all security updates, bug fixes and vulnerability patches. Microsoft will not address any vulnerabilities targeted at Windows 2003 Server discovered after the official EOS date. This may be a concern for users, especially those in business and corporate environments who have not yet migrated to the latest supported OS.

Trend Micro strongly recommends that users migrate to the latest supported server OS version as soon as possible, but we also understand the complexity of migrating a large environment. Many companies may still be in the process of migrating essential legacy systems.

Therefore, Trend Micro has decided to extend support until January 31, 2018 for Windows 2003 Server-based clients using the business Endpoint Protection products and versions listed above, in order to help our business customers safely migrate to the latest supported Microsoft OS.

In early-to-mid 2017, Trend Micro will be re-assessing Windows 2003 Server client agent support for the abovementioned products and will update this artcle accordingly.

Please note that this support is only limited to the versions of the Trend Micro software for Windows 2003 Server-based client agents listed at the beginning of the article.  Trend Micro's extended support does not cover the use of Windows 2003 Server as the server component for the products, issues with the operating system itself, or support on any earlier versions of the Trend Micro products listed above. Because Windows 2003 Server has been officially retired by Microsoft, Trend Micro’s support may be considered the “best effort” in situations regarding new vulnerabilities or threats that require an underlying OS fix.

After Jan. 31, 2018

After Trend Micro officially ends Windows 2003 Server platform for the following products listed above, customers still using the platform should expect the following:

  • Trend Micro will no longer develop or provide any bug-fixes or patches for the affected products.
  • Product technical updates - such as detection pattern files, rules, or filters – may cease at any time after this date without any formal notice.

Trend Micro strongly recommends that customers migrate to a supported version of their operating systems as soon as possible to ensure the latest protection against threats.
