Control ManagerVersion 6.0 build 3506*ReadmeWindowsNow

* Please note that Version 6.0 build 3444 was the minimum build published in original bulletin release.  However, the newer build (3506) is highly recommended instead and requires Version 6.0 SP3 Patch 2 as a prerequisite and both are required to fully remediate the vulnerabilities covered in this bulletin.

Customers are encouraged to visit Trend Micro’s Download Center to obtain prerequisite software (such as Service Packs) before applying any of the solutions above.

Vulnerability Details

This update resolves multiple vulnerabilities in Trend Micro Control Manager 6.0:

  • An unauthenticated user may bypass Control Manager's authentication scheme to access and read XML files stored on the server.
  • A remote attacker could potentially attain code execution, elevated privleges, or directory traversal abilities on the server.
  • A remote attacker could initiate SQL injection attacks, allowing them to execute SQL commands to upload and execute arbitrary code that may harm the target system.

Due to the seriousness of these vulnerabilities, customers are highly encouraged to update to the latest build as soon as possible.

Mitigating Factors

Exploiting these type of vulnerabilities generally require that an attacker has access (physical or remote) to a vulnerable machine. In addition to timely application of patches and updated solutions, customers are also advised to review remote access to critical systems and ensure policies and perimeter security is up-to-date.

However, even though an exploit may require several specific conditions to be met, Trend Micro strongly encourages customers to update to the latest builds as soon as possible.
