This article contains instructions on how to automate the Windows Update based upgrade to Windows 10 Creators Update (RS2) from Windows 10 Anniversary Update (RS1).

Windows Update based upgrade to Windows 10 Creators Update (RS2) is NOT supported in Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10. Follow the steps in KB article In-place upgrade to Windows 10 Update (RS1/RS2) in Endpoint Encryption to first do an in-place upgrade.

  1. Copy the drivers into a folder.
  2. Create a setupconfig.ini file and place it in "%systemdrive%\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WSUS\“.
  3. Add the following content to the file:

    [SetupConfig]
    ReflectDrivers=<folder containing encryption drivers>

  4. Save the file.
  5. When the upgrade runs, set up will automatically pick up the setupconfig file.
 
During the upgrade process, Windows will perform two system restarts. The system restarts are part of the upgrade process. You can opt to temporarily disable preboot during these restarts to make the upgrade process more seamless.
