Deep Security engines offline may occur if Windows Device Install Service & System Events Broker services are not running

Summary

When the Device Install Service & System Events Broker services of Windows OS are at Disabled and stopped state respectively, the Deep Security Agent (DSA) may fail to install the Trend Micro LightWeight Filter Driver, which is a common driver for Web Reputation Service, Firewall, and Intrusion Prevention System features. Eventually, you may see multiple errors on Deep Security Manager (DSM) console as shown below:

To resolve the issue, make sure the Device Install Service is enabled during installation of Deep Security Agents modules. Below are the Windows commands to enable and disable the Device Install Service.

  • Enable and start

    sc.exe config DeviceInstall start= demand
    sc.exe start DeviceInstall

  • Disable and stop

    sc.exe stop DeviceInstall
    sc.exe config DeviceInstall start= disable
