Cannot upgrade Endpoint Sensor (TMES) Agent to version prior to 1.6 Update 6

This article describes why users will fail to upgrade Endpoint Sensor (TMES) Agent to versions prior to 1.6 Update 6 and it will provide the workaround to resolve the issue.

Due to the expired certificate, if you would like to upgrade agent with TMES version prior to 1.6 Update 6 through the TMES web console, the web console will show an In Progress status for a long time or an Upgrade error.

In the update log, the default path is c:\program files\Trend Micro\ESE\AU\AU_Data\AU_Log\TmuDump, users will see the following message:

ActiveUpdate was unable to verify signed information. The signer certificate has expired. Please contact Trend Micro technical support.

Workaround

  1. Please upgrade all Microsoft Windows updates, then upgrade the TMES server to version 1.6 Update 6 or higher. 
  2. If the agent upgrade status is in progress, the TMES agent will retry connecting to the TMES server and download the latest agent for the upgrade.

    If the agent upgrade status is upgrade error or has not been upgraded, upgrade the TMES agent through the TMES web console.
