Summary
This bulletin provides information on what TippingPoint Operating System (TOS) is required to upgrade the different TippingPoint IPS/TPS devices.
Installing TOS Software - When downloading and installing a TOS software package, verify that the package you are downloading is not larger than the listed amount of free space on the device. An unpacked TOS package may require more space than anticipated, depending on your device model, saved snapshots and rollback versions, and the size of the available update. To make sure the device has enough disk space, you can delete previously installed software images.
CAUTION: Ensure that you read the release notes associated with the TOS software update package on the TMC. The release notes contain information that may make the difference between a successful software update and an unsuccessful software update.

Details
Hitless TOS Updates - allows the device to continue to inspect traffic while the software is updated. During the reboot phase traffic is not inspected as the device will go into Layer-2-Fallback (L2FB). Traffic inspection will resume once the system completes the reboot process.
Transparent High Availability (TRHA) - before performing an upgrade, you must disable TRHA. The process for upgrading a TRHA cluster is to break down the cluster, upgrade each device individually, and then re-establish the cluster.
Note 1: If installing the TOS update via the LSM, do not close the browser window or navigate off the Update page while the software installs.
Note 2: Hitless reboots are not supported on the TippingPoint 10/110/330 IPS devices.

1 | Download the package | Manual | Varies | Up |
2 | Install the package | Manual | 15-20 minutes | Up |
3 | Reboot the TippingPoint device | Automatic | 5 minutes | Intrinsic Network HA |
4 | Commit and update the changes | Automatic | A few seconds | Intrinsic Network HA |
