How do I upgrade the SMS license?

Summary
The SMS License Key grants your SMS server authority to manage a specific number of TippingPoint security devices. The SMS product includes a default license key that allows management of up to 25 devices. This default license key appears in the SMS interface as a string of X characters. If you need to manage more than 25 devices, you must purchase a new license and use it to upgrade the existing key. Only devices managed by the SMS server count against the license key. If you configure the SMS server to no longer manage a device that it previously managed, that device no longer counts against your SMS license.

How To: Upgrade an SMS License Key

  1. Contact your TippingPoint sales representative to purchase a new license.
  2. After you have purchased the new license, TippingPoint will make the license available for you.
  3. Log in to the SMS from a client.
  4. On the SMS toolbar select Admin.
  5. On the Navigation pane select General.
  6. The SMS Node Count License section displays you current Node Count:
  7. To upgrade do one of the following:
    • Click Upgrade.
    • Select the menu item File->Upgrade SMS License.
  8. In the Upgrade License section, enter the New License Key.
  9. Click Apply.
