This issue happens because there is a new Linux Kernel module 2.6.32.9 that is being used in Smart Protection Server 2.0. There is no need to install the VMware tools or the Linux Kernel module. The server kernel module already contains the VMWare Tools module (vmxnet3), which SPS requires.
