The issue happens because of the following:

  • Windows 8 UI applications require the User Account Control (UAC) to launch. UAC may not always disable completely when you turn it off using the Control Panel.
  • Windows 8 can use any Microsoft Hotmail account to log in to the computer. However, remote installation will fail when you use a Microsoft hotmail account as login credentials to the remote computer.

As a workaround, do any the following:

Always create a backup before modifying the registry.  Incorrect registry changes may cause serious issues.  Should this occur, restore it by referring to the "Restoring the Registry" Help topic in Regedit.exe or the "Restoring a Registry Key" Help topic in Regedt32.exe.
  1. Open the Registry Editor.
  2. Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\EnableLUA key.
  3. Change its value from "1" to "0" to completely disable the UAC.
  4. Restart the computer for the changes to take effect.
  5. After the computer restarts, remotely install again the WFBS agent.

After you have successfully installed the WFBS agent using remote installation, turn on the UAC by changing EnableLUA's value to "1" in the registry using the same procedure.

If the problem persists, proceed to the next option.

Use either a local administrator or domain administrator account as login credentials on the Windows 8 computer.

If the problem persists, proceed to the next option.
