The error occurs when the Anti-Malware (AM) function for Deep Security Virtual Appliance is enabled.

There are other possible reasons why the "Anti-Malware Engine Offline" status occurs. For the agent-based scenarios, you may refer to this article: Error: Anti-malware Engine Offline.

To resolve the issue, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Policies > Deep Security Virtual Appliance policy > Details.
  2. Choose Anti-Malware.
  3. On the General tab, turn off Anti-Malware State.
  4. Save the changes.
  5. Go to Computers and find the Deep Security Virtual Appliance.
  6. Right-click the selected Deep Security Virtual Appliance and click Actions > Send Policies.
  7. Once again, select the Deep Security Virtual Appliance and click Actions > Clear Warning / Errors.

Deep Security Manager will now send the new policy along with the disabled Anti-Malware to the Deep Security Virtual Appliance. In return, the offline status will not occur anymore.

Note that Deep Security Virtual Appliance should not be applied as an Anti-Malware policy and should only be activated on the virtual machine protected by Deep Security Virtual Appliance.
