The issue happens because rebooting the cluster node may take a long time, causing "Reconnect host" event to spam the vCenter console.

To prevent the said message:

  1. Before starting the Prepare host command, manually set the ESXi host to Maintenance Mode.
  2. Select No when asked to automatically reboot the host.

    Prepare ESX server

  3. After the preparation, manually reboot the host.
  4. Manually exit the Maintenance Mode when needed.
