Solution

Trend Micro has released the following solutions to address the issue:

* Version 11.0 SP1 CP 6325 requires Version 11.0 Service Pack 1 with Patch 1 as a prerequisite. 

Customers are encouraged to visit Trend Micro’s Download Center to obtain prerequisite software (such as Service Packs) before applying any of the solutions above.

Vulnerability Details

This update resolves multiple vulnerabilities in Trend Micro OfficeScan 11.0 and XG:

1. A specific alert webpage that is shown when certain sites are blocked may be subject to cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities.

2. In specific circumstances, encrypted account passwords may leak during web console operations, leading to a potential privilege escalation.

Due to the seriousness of these vulnerabilities, customers are highly encouraged to update to the latest build as soon as possible.

Mitigating Factors

Exploiting these type of vulnerabilities generally require that an attacker has access (physical or remote) to a vulnerable machine. In addition to timely application of patches and updated solutions, customers are also advised to review remote access to critical systems and ensure policies and perimeter security is up-to-date.

However, even though an exploit may require several specific conditions to be met, Trend Micro strongly encourages customers to update to the latest builds as soon as possible.

Other Notable Enhancement(s)

In addition to resolving the vulnerabilities mentioned above, these CPs also enhance and strengthen OfficeScan's self-protection mechanisms to better protect against local administrator injection attacks such as the recently reported DoubleAgent security issue.
