The Edge Server was implemented to serve off-premise OfficeScan/Apex One agents when an administrator was concerned about implementing the OfficeScan/Apex One server in a corporate DMZ network (demilitarized zone).
It is recommended to put Edge Server in DMZ to bridge off-premise agents and the OfficeScan/Apex One server. However, it is not recommended to install Edge Server and the OfficeScan/Apex One server on the same host because:
- Both Edge Server and the OfficeScan/Apex One server will require Internet Information Server (IIS) Service, which may introduce a port conflict issue.
- It’s not a security best practice to put an OfficeScan/Apex One server in DMZ as it may expose the OSCE server to the internet and increase the risk of compromise.
