The Edge Server was implemented to serve off-premise OfficeScan/Apex One agents when an administrator was concerned about implementing the OfficeScan/Apex One server in a corporate DMZ network (demilitarized zone).

It is recommended to put Edge Server in DMZ to bridge off-premise agents and the OfficeScan/Apex One server. However, it is not recommended to install Edge Server and the OfficeScan/Apex One server on the same host because:

  • Both Edge Server and the OfficeScan/Apex One server will require Internet Information Server (IIS) Service, which may introduce a port conflict issue.
  • It’s not a security best practice to put an OfficeScan/Apex One server in DMZ as it may expose the OSCE server to the internet and increase the risk of compromise.

Based on the points above, Trend Micro will not support this setup for installing an OfficeScan/Apex One server and an Edge Server on the same machine.
