ProductUpdated version*NotesPlatformAvailability
OfficeScanXG CP 1641 r1ReadmeWindowsNow
11.0 SP1 CP 6392 r1ReadmeWindowsNow

* The RCE vulnerabilities (VRTS-337,339) highlighted in this bulletin have already been addressed in OSCE XG via a fix that can be obtained via Trend Micro's ActiveUpdate server.  XG CP 1641 addresses the XSS (VRTS-972) issue only, while 11.0 SP1 CP 6392 addresses all three issues in the CP for OSCE 11.0 SP1.

Please note that there were earlier versions of these patches posted on Trend Micro's Download Center page and have since been repackaged due to a minor issue with agent version reporting.  Customers who may have downloaded an earlier version of these patches should ensure that they have the "r1" versions listed above.

Customers are encouraged to visit Trend Micro’s Download Center to obtain prerequisite software (such as Service Packs) before applying any of the solutions above.

Vulnerability Details

This update resolves multiple vulnerabilities in Trend Micro OfficeScan:

1. A third-party component previously used for mapping displays was reported to be vulnerable to a XSS attack if exploited (VRTS-972).

2. A unauthenticated user could potentially attain remote code execution via a post-auth command injection (VRTS-337, 339).

Due to the seriousness of these and any vulnerabilities, customers are highly encouraged to update to the latest patches as soon as possible.

Mitigating Factors

Exploiting these type of vulnerabilities generally require that an attacker has access (physical or remote) to a vulnerable machine. In addition to timely application of patches and updated solutions, customers are also advised to review remote access to critical systems and ensure policies and perimeter security is up-to-date.

However, even though an exploit may require several specific conditions to be met, Trend Micro strongly encourages customers to update to the latest builds as soon as possible.
