Vulnerability Details
This update resolves two vulnerabilities in Trend Micro Smart Protection Server (Standalone) 3.x:
1. CVE-2018-10350: An attacker could initiate a SQL injection attack, allowing them to execute SQL commands to upload and execute arbitrary code that may harm the target system. However, this exploit requires the attacker to already have obtained administrator access via another method.
2. CVE-2018-6237: An unauthenticated remote attacker could manipulate the product to send a large number of specially crafted HTTP requests to potentially cause the file system to fill up, eventually causing a denial of service (DoS) situation.
Due to the seriousness of these vulnerabilities, customers are highly encouraged to update to the latest build as soon as possible.
Mitigating Factors
Exploiting these type of vulnerabilities generally require that an attacker has access (physical or remote) to a vulnerable machine. In addition to timely application of patches and updated solutions, customers are also advised to review remote access to critical systems and ensure policies and perimeter security is up-to-date.
However, even though an exploit may require several specific conditions to be met, Trend Micro strongly encourages customers to update to the latest builds as soon as possible.
