By following the above steps, the issue of repeated Web Reputation service notifications causing emails to be sent to ScanMail can be resolved.

  1. The unavailable notification could be due to a network issue. In ScanMail 14 patch 6, the Web Threat Protection rating server and port is updated. Check the network stability by doing the following:
    1. Open a Web Browser on the Exchange Server where ScanMail for Exchange is installed
    2. Access https://smex14-en-t0.url.trendmicro.com. The result should be 88/ 00000000 0 0 0
    3. If the output is not 88/ 00000000 0 0 0. Check your network (ie Proxy, Firewall, Network Security Appliance) to make sure that ScanMail can communicate to smex14-en-t0.url.trendmicro.com in port 443
  2. Alternatively, you may opt to disable this notification in ScanMail Web console
    1. Go to Alerts and then select System Events.
    2. Under ScanMail Events, uncheck "Smart Protection Server - Each time Web Reputation service was"
    3. Save
  3. By default, the Smart Protection Server (SPS) check interval status is set to 3 minutes. In situations where the network is unstable, it can lead to difficulties in the server establishing a connection with the SPS server. Customers have the option to extend this interval to a longer duration by modifying the registry key, for example: setting it to 120 (which represents 2 hours) or a longer duration if needed as Web Reputation service is being reported as unavailable or recovered repeatedly, resulting in notifications being sent by ScanMail repeatedly as well, the following steps can be taken to resolve the issue:
    1. Run regedit and modify the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\ScanMail for Exchange\CurrentVersion.
    2. In the key WtpScheduledScanServiceSearchIntervalMin, change the value type as DWORD and set the value as 120.
      path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\ScanMail for Exchange\CurrentVersion
      key: WtpScheduledScanServiceSearchIntervalMin
      type: DWORD
      value: 120
    3. In the key ScheduledScanServiceSearchIntervalMin, again change the value type as DWORD and set the value as 120.
      path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro\ScanMail for Exchange\CurrentVersion
      key: ScheduledScanServiceSearchIntervalMin
      type: DWORD
      value: 120
    4. Open services.msc and restart ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange Master Service
