After updating the kernel version to Redhat 8.8, some servers have been observed to hang within 10 minutes of rebooting. The issue was reported to Redhat support and based on the logs of snapshot memory of the VM, it was identified that the fanotify file was not being acknowledged by the monitoring process, causing the accessing process to block indefinitely.

To resolve this issue, it is recommended to follow the below steps:

  1. Create a file named ds_am.ini in the location /var/opt/ds_agent/am/.
  2. Append the following line to the file and save it:
    /opt/ds_agent/lib/libvmpd_nhadapter.so=nh_hook_enable=0
  3. Restart the ds_agent service.
  4. Observe if the hang issue still persists.

In addition, it is highly recommended to upgrade the Agent to version 20.0.7303 or the latest DSA which is 20.0.0-7476.

By following the above steps, the issue of hanging servers after updating to Redhat 8.8 can be resolved.
