A. Port Availability: The GUI client for SMS v3.5 and above, requires the following ports to communicate with the SMS server.
- TCP 9033
- TCP 10042
B. Client Version: The SMS GUI client only works with its designated version. (E.g. SMS v4.6 server only works with the GUI client provided by the installation of SMS v4.6). The correct version has to be downloaded from the SMS web page.
C. Host Naming Convention: RFC-952 and RFC-1123 specify the syntax for hostnames and as per RFCs, underscores are not valid characters for a hostname. The newer version of the JAVA client used in SMS v3.5.0 and higher enforces RFC compliance and will cause the SMS client software to timeout when a connection attempt is made if the hostname has an underscore. If your host has an underscore in its hostname you might see the following symptoms:
- SSH and HTTPS connections are allowed.
- The SMS GUI client will not connect even though the proper credentials are provided and the SMS Client will immediately display an invalid credentials dialog box.
