By default the settings are as follows:
| Item | Default Setting | Comments |
| Enable Device Communication Check | Enabled | This function enables/disables the SMS communication with all managed devices. |
| Failure Threshold | 5 | This number indicates a count of communication failures. If system is set to default, the system will generate an alert after 5 consecutive communication failures. |
| Comm check interval | 1 minute | By default the SMS attempts to contact the IPS every minute. |
Tipping point does not recommend "disabling" the communication check between devices as this might lead to unexplained errors. However, you can modify the threshold and the interval in order to alleviate any problems that might be occurring due to latency.
How to edit the SMS System Preferences;
- Log in to the SMS from a client.
- From the top line menu select Edit > Preferences. The System Preferences screen displays.
- From the navigation pane on the left, select Devices.
- In the "Device Preferences" area change any of the following;
- Uncheck "Enable Device Communication Check" (Not recommended, this means that the SMS will not perform any communication check for communications checks, but can have some unpredictable results)
- Change the "Failure Threshold" from the default of 5
- Change the "Comm check interval" from the default of 1 minute
- Click "OK"
